UPCOMING

JEWELRY BUYING — A gold and silver buying event will be held at the Silver Center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday. Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 21 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22. Bring old gold, silver and platinum in any condition to the Silver Center, 510 E. Court St. and get paid on the spot. Broken chains, one earring, even silverware will be purchased with no pressure. All metals will be tested in full view and sales are optional. Proceeds support the seniors program at the Silver Center. For information, call 830-303-6612.

PLAZA SUITE — The Seguin Art Center will present Neil Simon’s three-act play Plaza Suite on Friday and Saturday evenings, Nov. 20 and 21 and on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 22. Evening performances begin at 8 p.m. and Sunday performances begin at 2 p.m. Friday and Saturdays will offer a dinner theater format. Sundays will include a full buffet brunch. FRIDAY DANCE — The Silver Center Friday Night Dance will feature the music of Texas Weather on Nov. 20 from 7:30-11 p.m. Admission is $8. Homemade sandwiches are available for starting at 6:30 p.m.

SANTA PICTURES — The Guadalupe County Humane Society will offer children’s and pets’ pictures with Santa Claus on Nov. 20 and Nov. 21. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bank of America, 210 W. Court St. Photos will be taken by Lynn Glenewinkel and several packages are available. Arts and crafts, food, a bake sale and refreshments will be available. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society.

BOOK SIGNING — Author Bill Soyers will have a signing of his book, "A Passionate Trail," at Hastings in Seguin from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 21. The event will include a half-price book sale.

ANGER MANAGEMENT — Precious Life Services will hold an anger management course from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Seguin Elks Lodge, 1331 C.H. Matthies Jr. Registration forms are available at the Silver Center, 510 E. Court St. or online at preciouslifeservices.com . Individual Therapy and six- and 12-week courses are now available. BAKE SALE — Back Porch Friends will be having a Thanksgiving Bake Sale on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Kinfolk Creations, 1011 South State Hwy. 46 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. We will have cakes, pies, coffee cakes, cobblers and other items for the Thanksgiving dinner table. GOAT SHOW — The Guadalupe County 4-H Goat Club presents the Too Cool Goat Show on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Guadalupe County Fairgrounds hog barn. THANKSGIVING CONCERT — Second Baptist Church will host a Thanksgiving Day of Praise Fall Concert, featuring performers from all over the community. The event will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Second Baptist, 609 S. Guadalupe St. The choir will be directed by Richard E. Wilson of David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Austin and features guest musicians from Austin. Proceeds go to the Seguin Police Department’s Blue Santa Program. BENEFIT CONCERT — The Palace Theatre will present a weekly concert benefitting the Christian Cupboard. Shows start at 6 p.m. Donations at the door for the concert series are $3 with a canned good or dry food item, $5 without. SUNDAY DANCE — The Circle C Band will be playing country music at the Geronimo VFW 8456 Hall, Sunday afternoon, Nov. 22, from 3-6:30 p.m. at 6808 N Highway 123 in Geronimo. CLUB DANCE — The Goodtime Polka and Waltz Club Dance will be held from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22 at the Eagles Hall, 257 E. South St. in New Braunfels. Dance on a great wooden floor to the sounds of the Fritz Hodde Band from Hutto. Music will consist of polkas, waltzes, country and big band.

‘PRODUCERS’ AUDITIONS — Auditions will be held Monday, Nov. 23 for a Circle Arts Theatre production of “The Producers.” The theater is located at 124 Elizabeth St. in Landa Park in New Braunfels. Auditions begin at 7 p.m. Come prepared to sing a song of your choice, a pianist and CD player will be available for accompaniment. Wear comfortable clothing for the movement portion of the audition. The show is scheduled to run Jan. 28 to Feb. 28. Roles exist for five men and one woman, and a very large ensemble. Call 830-837-6172 if you have any questions.

HERITAGE SEGUIN — The November meeting of Heritage Seguin will be at Mona’s Custom Catering, 924 E. Kingsbury St. on Tuesday, Nov. 24. OPEN MIKE — Come enjoy an evening of family entertainment listening and dancing to the music of Horace Comfort and band on Open Mike Night from 7-10 p.m. on Nov 24. PARENTING CONNECTIONS — A new parenting course through the Texas AgriLife Extension will be offered on the first and second Monday of each month from 6-9 p.m. at 607 Jefferson Ave. There is a one-time fee of $30. For more information 830-379-2153. Course begins promptly at 6 p.m. and is no longer than three hours, snacks included. Certificates are presented when both sessions are completed.

ESPANOL CLUB — Are you learning Spanish with Mango Languages? Come and practice your new skills at the library. Join in an hour of conversational Spanish at the Seguin-Guadalupe County Public Library on Monday Nov. 16 from 6-7 p.m. The Language Club will give you the opportunity to practice your Spanish speaking skills in an informal setting. SHELTER VOLUNTEERS — The Guadalupe Valley Family Violence Shelter is in need of volunteers for office work, children’s social hour and countless other activities. The Cranny Thrift Store also needs volunteers for sorting donations, assisting customers and tidying up. Donate a few hours a day or a week. Call Tracy Krech at 830-372-2781.

CHRISTMAS VESPERS — TLU Christmas Vespers will be presented Dec. 4-6 at Jackson Auditorium on the TLU campus. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4 and 5; and at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6. Vespers is an annual Christmas celebration of music and word at Texas Lutheran, and this year’s performance, under the direction of Dr. Doug Boyer, director of the TLU School of Music, is titled, “How Still He Rests.” Tickets for Christmas Vespers will be available beginning Monday, Nov. 2. These tickets are free, but necessary because of the popularity of the annual program. Tickets will be available at the TLU Bookstore, located in the Alumni Student Center on campus. Bookstore hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Ticket orders may also be placed by phone, e-mail, and online. When ordering tickets, be sure to include your name, phone number, address, date and time of performance you wish to attend, and the number of tickets needed. Phone orders can be placed by calling 830-372-6317, E-mail orders can be placed at vespers@tlu.edu or by completing an online form through the TLU Web site at www.tlu.edu/vespers . Tickets will be mailed to the provided address.

COMPUTER CLASSES — The Seguin-Guadalupe County Public Library will host a computer class: File management on Friday, Nov. 20 at 2-4 p.m. All classes are free and open to the public. SYMPHONY FUNDRAISER — The Mid-Texas Symphony Guild is holding its annual poinsettia fundraiser during November. Red poinsettia plants are $12 each, including tax, and will be available for pick up on Friday, Dec. 4, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Silver Center on Court Street. The deadline for ordering is Friday, Nov. 27. Delivery is available for orders of two or more plants. Please make checks payable to “Mid-Texas Symphony Guild” P. O. Box 764, Seguin, TX 78156. HOME TOUR — Tour heritage homes in their holiday finery in one of Texas’ oldest towns. Seguin Conservation Society’s Heritage Home Tour is Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5 and 6, from 2-5 p.m. both days. Sponsored by the Seguin Conservation Society, the annual tour will showcase vintage homes dating back to the mid-1800s. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 the day of the tour, and are available at Gift and Gourmet,751 N. Austin St.

HOOP SHOOT — Seguin Elks Lodge 1229 will host its annual “Hoop Shoot” at the St. James Gym on Dec. 5. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with competition to follow. Participants must be between the ages of 8 and 19 as of April 1, 2010. There will be three age groups, 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13 for both girls and boys. There is no cost to competitors.
