Deputies use store video to ID suspect

Published November 27, 2009

SEGUIN — Sheriff’s investigators released their first photos of a man who held up a convenience store in northern Guadalupe County Tuesday afternoon and asked for the public’s help in apprehending him.

Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Investigator Bruce Tubbs said the robbery occurred at about 3:30 p.m. when the man walked into the Sac ‘N’ Pac at State Highway 123 and Ridge Drive.

“The clerk reported that a Hispanic male between the ages of 25 and 35 entered the store naturally through the front door and produced a small, silver automatic pistol and demanded she give him the money out of the cash drawer.

The woman did as investigators say anyone should when confronted by an armed, desperate individual and handed over the cash, Tubbs said. Authorities did not reveal how much money that was.

Tubbs said the man was between five feet, five inches and five feet, eight inches tall, of stocky build and weighed between 160 and 190 pounds.

He had short hair faded on the sides and no apparent facial hair, Tubbs said.

At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a white, short-sleeved T-shirt, baggy blue jeans and dark-colored tennis shoes, Tubbs said.

“The lower part of his face was covered by a nylon stocking, distorting his facial features,” Tubbs said.

Investigators say he was believed to have escaped in a four-door, dark grey, newer model, small sport utility vehicle with a metal luggage rack on the roof. When last seen, the vehicle was headed southbound on State Highway 123 South.

Tubbs said investigators Mark Reyes and Pauline Olvera were working with the San Marcos Police Department to determine if the robbery was related to a similar crime committed in that nearby community the day before.

Anyone with information is asked to call Reyes or Olvera at the Sheriff’s Office at 830-379-1224.
