Seguin 8’s win again

NEW BRAUNFELS — The youngsters from Seguin did it again.
The 8-year-old All-Stars from the Seguin Little League added another win to their perfect debut, this time defeating the New Braunfels “Blue” All-Stars 8-0 at the New Braunfels Little League complex on Tuesday.
Jordan Montoya picked up his second victory of the tournament by pitching three complete innings for the boys from Guadalupe County.
Ryley Brooks and Colby Newman also pitched shutout innings for Seguin, with Brooks striking out two batters.
The golden All-Stars wasted little time seizing control of the game. Newman, Brooks, Stratton Pounds, Bryan Butler, Rawson Young and Kyle Kolbe all singled and scored in the top of the first inning. Baraeden Trost added an RBI double and by the time the dust had settled, Seguin had opened up a 6-0 lead over the New Braunfels Blues.
Newman’s skills with his bat and his glove took center stage in the third inning. In the top half of the inning, Newman stretched Seguin’s lead to 7-0 by knocking an inside-the-park home run to the delight of the Seguin faithful.
For an encore, Newman recorded an unassisted double play. Playing at first base, he snared a line drive out of the air and then effortlessly stepped on first base to take care of the second out.
Kendall Harborth added to the Seguin efforts at the plate by knocking a single in the top of the fifth inning.
Arturo Villamil and Roman Flores also saw action on the field for the little Matadors.
The win puts the Seguin 8’s in the championship round, which will be played today in New Braunfels at 7 p.m. Seguin needs to win one out of two games to win the title.
